Update 4

30/06/09

Dear Colleague

Time is moving on and a lot is happening alcohol-wise. The Select Committee is currently hearing submissions on the Lianne Dalziel inspired "Sale and Supply of Liquor and Liquor Enforcement Act", the Law Commission's public consultation document will be out in less than 5 weeks time, and the Liquor Control Campaign will be launched in 10 weeks time at the "Cutting Edge" conference.

Two main things:

1. Attached, finally, is the first official Campaign Information Sheet, which will soon be converted into a pamphlet. I am particularly pleased to let you know that I am being joined by three esteemed medical colleagues forming a Medical Spokesperson group for the campaign - Geoff Robinson, Jennie Connor and Rod Jackson - two clinicians and two public health experts and spread across the four cities of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Feel free to distribute this Information Sheet as far and wide as you can and want to. There will be an opportunity to access pamphlets in due course, numbers depending on the campaign's financial position. Which leads me to...

2. It is now time, if you're able, to make a one-off donation or a small regular automatic payment to the campaign. If you do, you'll not have invested well-earned money for a better NZ cause for a long time. It was suggested to me that we should all consider how much alcohol we buy each month and then for the rest of the year halve the amount and donate the other half to the campaign on a monthly basis.

A simpler method might be to just set up an AP of $20 or $30 a month.

As you'll see in the information sheet the campaign is being administered through the John Dobson Memorial Foundation, a charitable trust, registered under the Charities Act 2005. You can either send a cheque made out to Liquor Control to  PO Box 433, Christchurch 8140, or alternatively make a donation through internet banking to Liquor Control, 38-9009-0359942-00.

Dig deep comrade!

I'm also attaching the latest itinerary for the lecture series.

You'll see two new venues - Waitakere and Doubtless Bay (Far North).

In addition to these 32 main evening events, are various additional presentations to other groups accumulating, including schools, iwi, Rotary Clubs, Hospitality Association, etc.

Finally, just to let you know, I haven't yet heard back from Minister Dunn's office regarding my letter to him. If you didn't receive a copy of this and want one, please get back to me. I'm going to keep trying.

Sincerely

Doug
